Currently Listening
In Between Dreams
By Jack Johnson
see related

I know I haven't written in forever...sorry 'bout that. ^^;
This is a little scene that popped into my head as I was listening to a few of Jack Johnson's songs, specifically the happy, romantic ones like "Better when we're Together", "Banana Pancakes", and "Do you Remember". Although, the idea for the setting came from "Constellations"; Trunks, Butterfly, and Anomen are laying in the grass, looking up at the stars and sharing their thoughts with one another. This scene occurs after Trunks and Butterfly get back from a trip gone wrong, during which they were hypnotized and brainwashed and...don't ask (I've been reading way too many mind control stories, and it's affecting my little world). Anyway, Ani had to help them to escape since, well, Trunks was kept drugged and was pretty much out of it (though he was still managing to fight off being totally brainwashed), and Butterfly was completely out of it. ^^;; So that's why Ani is there, too, even though he lives somewhere in England while Trunks and Butterfly live somewhere near the west coast of the United States.

Some more background...Ahzi has died sometime before this, though I'm not sure he died in the way I wrote up a while back, but he is definitely dead. Duren has disappeared, though I'm not sure how or why yet. I was originally thinking that he ran away, but...even though Ani wouldn't be the best father, I don't think he would be terrible enough to make Duren take such drastic measures. >.o It's for sure, though, that he disappeared and has been gone a while, probably at least eight years, so, honestly, they don't have much hope of ever finding him...and they tend to avoid talking about it because it sends Butterfly into a fit whenever they do.

Just by the way, I've completely changed everything...the whole story plot thing I had going has been totally destroyed and rebuilt. And, unfortunately for those poor souls who actually care, I'm not going to bother to describe it or explain it all here, at least not until I know for sure that this storyline is what I'm going to stick with until the end...though I think it will be, or at least a version of it, because I'm really liking it. >.> That's actually the reason I haven't written anything for so long...nothing that I'm going to write from now on will fit very well with what I've already written. ^^;; I like to think of all the stories I write here as just scenes shot in a movie; some scenes are kept and used in the actual movie, and others were made but just didn't become part of the finished product. Seriously, most of the scenes I think up never become anything more than random thoughts that keep me occupied when I'm bored. ^^;;

*ahem*
On to the story now. >.> It'll probably feel like I've lost a bit of my "touch", because I have.

Trunks raised his glass of champagne to the night sky. "To family!"

Mimicking his brother's gesture, Anomen raised his glass as well. "To love!"

"To not being brainwashed!" The two of them looked at the speaker and laughed. Butterfly laughed, too, in a way that she hadn't in a very long time. All three glasses clinked together as they made a toast and drank cheerfully.

After sitting in relaxed silence for a few moments, Trunks turned to his brother who was laying on the other side of Butterfly. "So, Ani, how long are you going to stay?"

"Until I'm sure that you guys are going to be okay, I suppose. You were subjected to some of the most dangerous methods of mind control out there, and it'll take a while to recover from that, especially for..." he trailed off in his reply as he looked at the woman next to him. Just a couple of weeks before, she was so far gone she didn't even know her name...

"I see," Trunks said when Ani didn't continue. "Well, I think Butterfly and I will be alright now, thanks to your help and help from the anti-mind control squad." He put his arm around his wife and held her close to him, telling her, "It's good to have you back, Butterfly,
really back."

She let out a sigh and replied, "It's good to
be back, honey. Seriously, I never want to hear the word 'obey' again."

Ani smiled to himself, once again feeling grateful that they were safe. But at the same time, it was a sad smile because it meant that he had no reason to stay with them. He was so lonely, and had been since his son disappeared...it was nice being with them, feeling the warmth of their friendship and love, and even joining it in times like these. They made a wonderful trio, it seemed.

"We're moving out soon." Butterfly's statement broke the silence that had settled upon them, breaking Ani's train of thought with it.

"Why?" he asked, not really expecting much of an answer. They never stayed in one place too long, so it comes to no surprise that they would be packing up again, especially after recent events. But they were currently staying with a very kind family, and they seemed content there; he didn't sense any restlessness from Butterfly at all.

It was Trunks who answered, pulling Butterfly a little closer to him and resting his head on her shoulder while still keeping his blue eyes locked on him. "We've decided to move on," he said as he stroked his wife's long hair. "We're going to adopt a child and start our lives anew."

"And I bet Uncle Ani would be a great help, if he would like to stay with us." Butterfly smiled, knowing exactly what Ani's reaction would be to her saying that.

His face lit up with excitement. "Of course, I'd love to help out with the baby!" Husband and wife both smiled, to Ani and to themselves as well, and Butterfly wrapped her hand around Ani's.

After a while of laying there in silence, soaking in the warmth and beauty of the night, Trunks finally spoke. "There's one condition, though, Ani. You're going to have to refrain from grabbing my wife's ass every chance you get." The three of them laughed together and soon sank back into their warm embrace.

They seemed to stay that way for a long time, until Trunks noticed a single silent tear rolling down his wife's pale cheek. "What's wrong, Butterfly?"

She smiled and said, "I just realized something."

Bewildered, he asked, "What did you realize?"

"I'm happy."

End.

Currently Listening
Pure

Sorry about the lack of frequent updates. ^^; I've been getting more and more lazy when it comes to writing and/or drawing stuff. xP
Anyway, I was listening to this song that my friend, Sara, forced on me, and I came up with the idea for this story. ^^ I wasn't originally going to write it down because it was just another random scene popped into my head, but I needed another story/theme for an art request (a comic), so I went ahead and wrote it down.
Yay for another story! xD

"I was a fool to think he could ever love a... a
thing like me." She walked quickly, the hood of her cloak shielding her head from the mocking light of the crescent moon. So beautiful and perfect it was, looking down from high above, watching from its perch her furious attempts to wipe away her tears, and along with them, the shame welling up inside of her.

There was a voice calling out behind her; it was young Danny. "Hey, Miss Butterfly, where are you going?"

She paused in her escape, but she refused to turn around. "I'm leaving. I have no more reason to stay here, Danny; my job is done."

"What do you mean?" he asked.

"I must be on my way. Go home now, your mother must be worried."

From her side, she heard another voice. It was
his. "Butterfly?"

She closed her eyes and sighed quietly, wishing that she didn't have to face him now. "Trunks, I need to leave. I just can't stay here anymore, not now. I'm sorry, but..."

"I told her no."

"...What?"

"I told her no, Butterfly," he replied. "I didn't want to marry her."

"But...Trunks, she's a noble princess who comes from an honest, good family. She's the right girl for you!" It was so hard to squeeze out that last sentence, so hard to act like she wanted this for him, so hard to know that he'd be with another woman and that she would soon be forgotten.

"I know...I know you think that you're worthless; after all, you've been told that your whole life...by your parents, your boyfriends, your owners...but you're not worthless, Butterfly. You deserve to be happy, and I want to be the one to bring you that happiness. I should've asked you this a long time ago, I know, but..." He took a small, black box out of his pocket and knelt, taking her pale hand in his. "Will you marry me?"

The question seemed to dig itself right into her very core, leaving her speechless. She looked down at him, into those loving crystal blue eyes, and then knelt down with him. Trunks brushed back her hood, revealing the tears now flowing more heavily down her pale cheeks, and after a moment she wrapped her arms around him and wept.

A smile touched his lips as he returned the embrace and whispered softly, "I love you, too."

The end. ^.^

Wheee, 'tis a story about Duren! ^w^ Who's Duren exactly? Well...Before Butterfly got together with Trunks, she actually got together with his brother, Anomen (yeah, I know, she's a whore xD). In fact, they even got married when they found out they had a little 'love child'. ^^; But...it didn't really work out since Butterfly was really in love with Trunks and wanted to marry him instead. >.> So, obviously they got a divorce. This little story is talking about the legal custody battle between them....and how Butterfly lost (most likely it was deemed she was too 'unstable', but then that raises the question of why she's still allowed to keep Ahzi). Even at this age Duren doesn't really like Ani and would much prefer to stay with his mother.

I dedicate this little story to senen_goroshi from Gaia, since he's apparently a big Duren fan. xD

Duren sat waiting impatiently in his uncle's living room, staring intently at the front door as if it would open at any minute. For a few hours, he had his half-brother, Ahzi, three years his junior, to keep him company as a play mate, but now the small four-year-old was snuggled up in his bed. His uncle Trunks, Ahzi's father, was sitting on the fluffy couch behind him, his bright blue eyes, the same as the boy's, wandering as he waited also.

Finally, two bright headlights showed through the window as his mother's car pulled into the driveway, and Duren's young eyes lit up with excitement. The doorknob slowly turned, the door opened, and Butterfly walked in, her eyes red and her makeup smeared from crying. Duren knew then the outcome of the custody battle, and his excitement turned into utter sadness. It wasn't fair...

"Duren," she said as she kneeled in front of him, "you're going to be living with your dad from now on. So start packing up your stuff; he'll be here to get you early in the morning."

The little boy threw his arms around her and began to cry harder than he ever had before. "I don't want to go with him!" he sobbed. "I want to stay here, with you and Uncle Trunks and Ahzi....I'll hate it there with him!"

She placed a pale hand on his head of light blue hair and looked at him with those piercing emerald eyes of hers. "Don't say that. You don't know that you'll hate it, and if you go into a situation thinking it'll be horrible, then it really will be. I know it may not seem like it now, but this is for the best... Be strong for me, Duren."

He looked at her with the signature blue eyes of his family, tears still streaming down his face, and sniffled. "Yes, Mother. I'll still get to see you, won't I? And I can still come over and play with Ahzi?"

Butterfly glanced quickly at her husband and then looked back at the boy. "You get to come and stay with me once a month, and you can play with Ahzi then. It won't be so bad." He could tell she didn't really mean it; they all knew how hard it would be for the boys to be separated so often. She got up carefully from where she had knelt and said, "C'mon, 'Little Azure', I'll tell you a story as you get ready for bed, just like old times."

Duren rubbed away the tears that were on his little face as the realization struck him that this would be the last story he would ever hear his mother tell. "Which one?" he asked.

She took his small hands in hers and smiled. "I know! I think I'll tell you the beautiful story of the lonely angel who found her handsome prince. That one never gets old."

The end. ^.^

Currently Listening
Kingdom Hearts
By Various Artists
Dearly Beloved
see related

I was listening to "Dearly Beloved" from Kingdom Hearts when I wrote this story on the bus a few months ago, hints why the "Currently Listening" thing is set to that. I highly suggest that you try to listen to the song while you read the story; it helps me, at least, to imagine it better. I mean, can't you just imagine the moonlight shimmering through the window just as the sound of the piano seems to shimmer? *sighs*

Anyway, this story takes place early on, like right after Trunks and Butterfly get married and move into the castle in Hyrule. It's short, but it's a very important event, though not as vital to understanding the last two stories as I originally thought. ^^; I also warn you that I didn't really bother to describe the setting much, so just know that they're inside the castle looking out a big window and it's nighttime. xP
This may sound quite familiar if you read the last story, and it's supposed to. ~.^

"Someday..." he began, breaking the peaceful silence that surrounded them. They looked together at the visible expanse of their kingdom, the place they now considered to be their home. "Someday, we'll fly through those skies together." He wrapped a strong, bare arm around his angel from behind and held her close, giving this as a signal that he meant what he said.

"And we'll be free?" she asked, fragile tears beginning to form in her emerald eyes. He could feel her shivering under his touch, but whether she was afraid or cold, he could not tell. Either way he held on to her as gently as he could, hoping his warmth would spread and comfort her.

"Yes, we'll be free," he told her with a gentle smile forming on his handsome face. "You and I will be free from pain, free from worry, free from sadness...We'll be happy, Butterfly."

Her slender hand reached up and grabbed his arm, making him shiver at her ice cold touch. "I'll be waiting for that day, my prince." He could sense her sadness, even as her navy lips curved into a small smile in the darkness.

Together they watched as a flock of crows took off into the night sky, their black wings flapping and lifting them from the grassy field. The two of them would do the same someday, he was sure of it. He would get Butterfly her freedom, and they would fly away...

...together.

The end. ^.^

I don't really have much to say about this one. It's another Trunks and Butterfly story (don't you just love 'em? xD), and it's also another kind of sad one. Once again, I think I probably butchered it while trying to put it into words, but oh well. ^^;

Now that I think of it, most people probably won't get this one since...well, since I haven't explained it. xP I've begun a new little theory that it's a curse that keeps Butterfly in the Realm of the Living, and the curse was placed on her because she fell in love with Trunks (I know...the whole "forbidden love" thing is so overused -.-). So the curse is something like having to die 1,000 tragic deaths or something crazy like that...I haven't exactly worked out all the details yet, and, like I said, it's only a theory. ^^; I may decide to just throw it out in the end. xD And even this story probably isn't going to be in the grand scheme of things.

In case you haven't realized it yet, I love playing around with the different ways that Butterfly could die. I mean, I've probably thought up at least 10 possibilities today alone, but I just can't bring myself to kill her off completely. >.< That's where the curse kinda comes in, since I like having her die but I don't actually want to take her out of the "story" completely (she's actually a part of an even bigger story...if you can imagine that!). ^^; That reminds me - another part of the curse is that she loses something everytime she comes back. Once it was her ability to have children, once it was her sight, and now they're afraid that she'll lose her ability to love (or something like that). I needed a reason why they were so sad about her dying since she would just come back anyway, and that happened to occur to me as a good reason. xD

Wow...Reading through this, I think I sound like a total lunatic. Dx Ah well, at least I don't have any loyal fans who would be upset about me changing things a little. ^^; Eh...and I still keep forgetting to put that one story up here. >.< *just realized that it's actually pretty vital to understanding this story and the last one* I think I'll get started on that now, actually....Anyway, enjoy!

"Butterfly...Just tell me how long until this thing kills you." He had his back turned to her, but she could hear the shaking in his voice. It was obvious he didn't want to look at her, not after...

She had stayed silent before, but now it was time for her to tell him the truth. He had the right to know... "A couple months, maybe," was her quiet reply. Her heart jerked as she heard a sob escape from his throat; he turned around now, and she could feel the sense of determination that was growing inside him.

"I'll find a way to make this right," he said as he grabbed her hand, still speckled with small drops of dried blood. "I promise I will."

"Trunks..." she whispered, her unseeing emerald eyes filling with tears. She knew what was coming - the promises he would make, the words of hope that he would say to her, the passion that would be held within those lovely words, the sadness that would come when she realized that their desperate hopes were impossible to fulfill....

"Someday," he began, his deep blue eyes sparkling with excitement, "we'll rule the Heavens together, you and I. We'll bring changes to this world...no more violence, or wars, or...or murder, or crime, or pain...And just think about it; they'll all be waiting for us up there. I can already see Snow's face smiling at me when...Butterfly, I'll find a way to make you human again. Then you could live a normal life with a husband and kids and everything, and when you got old and it was time for you to die...you'd return to me. You'd return to the Heavens to be with me, and then no one could keep us apart! You'd stay by my side forever up there...and it wouldn't matter how scarred or torn your body was, because you'd always be beautiful up there. And...you'd be free, Butterfly. I would set you free, to fly above the clouds and do as you please without worrying about curses. I could even make you into a real butterfly if you wanted...I would do anything for you, my angel, and most importantly we'd be together...forever."

How silly it all seemed; he was only one man, one single guy trying to fight reality for the sake of the women he loved. He was always terribly stubborn, after all..."And what would I give you in return, my prince?"

She felt rather than saw his handsome smile. "Your happiness is the only thing I want...Your happiness, and your love, are all that I ask for in return." A tear rolled down her pale cheek, unchecked by any hand that may have wiped it away. In a moment she had wrapped her arms around his waist and her head was buried in his muscular chest.

"You're such a fool..." her voice was muffled by his body, but he heard her all the same. His smile grew even bigger as he wrapped his strong arms around his lover.

"Ah, but I'm
your fool, my love."

The end. ^.^
